Saint Lucia's economy has shifted substantially from agricultural exports, particularly bananas, toward services, with tourism now the dominant sector and a major source of foreign exchange and employment. Manufacturing, offshore financial services, and small-scale agriculture also contribute to the economy, though the country remains vulnerable to external shocks such as hurricanes and fluctuations in tourist arrivals.
The country uses the East Caribbean Dollar, which is pegged to the US Dollar, and is a member of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. Saint Lucia participates in regional trade arrangements through CARICOM and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, and has pursued economic diversification efforts including investment incentives and infrastructure development to reduce reliance on tourism.
