Once heavily reliant on sugar production, Saint Kitts and Nevis has transitioned its economy toward tourism, offshore financial services, and light manufacturing, including electronics assembly. The country also operates a Citizenship by Investment program, one of the oldest in the world, which contributes significantly to government revenue.
The United States is the country's largest trading partner, and Saint Kitts and Nevis participates in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States trade frameworks. It exports small amounts of agricultural products and machinery components while importing the majority of its food, fuel, and consumer goods.
