Saint Lucia: Foreign Relations

Saint Lucia conducts its foreign policy through active participation in regional and hemispheric institutions. As a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and the Organization of American States (OAS), the island nation coordinates closely with its Caribbean neighbors on trade, security, and sustainable development. It also belongs to the United Nations and the Association of Caribbean States, reflecting a foreign policy oriented toward multilateral cooperation.

The United States remains one of Saint Lucia's most significant foreign partners. As of 2026, the two countries cooperate through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative, a U.S.-led framework that brings CARICOM members together to address citizen safety, transnational crime, and regional security. Both nations also share membership in the United Nations, the OAS, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization, and the United States has supported Saint Lucia's efforts to diversify and expand its economy.

Saint Lucia is also one of the Caribbean's staunchest allies of Taiwan rather than the People's Republic of China, a diplomatic relationship it has maintained continuously since 2007. Pierre; senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire, have held high-level talks with Taiwanese leaders, and the two governments cooperate on agriculture, education, public health, and infrastructure projects.
