Peru: Culture and Society

Peru's population reflects a rich mix of Indigenous, mestizo, European, and Afro-Peruvian heritage, along with significant Chinese and Japanese immigrant communities. Spanish is the official language alongside Quechua and Aymara, which are widely spoken particularly in Andean regions, and Roman Catholicism remains the predominant religion.

Peruvian culture is renowned for its cuisine, considered among the most diverse in the world and blending Indigenous, Spanish, African, and Asian influences into dishes such as ceviche and lomo saltado. Traditional music and dance forms like the marinera, alongside a rich textile and craft tradition rooted in Andean and Inca heritage, remain central to Peruvian cultural identity.
