Dominican Republic: Economy and Trade

The Dominican Republic has one of the largest and fastest-growing economies in the Caribbean and Central America, driven primarily by tourism, which draws millions of visitors annually to its beaches and resorts. Other major sectors include mining, particularly gold and ferronickel, agriculture such as sugar, coffee, and cacao, and a growing free-trade-zone manufacturing sector focused on textiles and medical devices.

The United States is by far the country's largest trading partner, reinforced by the CAFTA-DR free trade agreement, alongside significant trade with Haiti, China, and the European Union. Remittances from the Dominican diaspora, particularly in the United States, form a substantial part of national income, and the government has pursued infrastructure and energy investments to support continued economic growth.
