Bolivia's visual arts trace a lineage from the Mestizo Baroque churches and altarpieces of the colonial Andes, which fused Spanish religious iconography with Indigenous motifs, to a modern gallery scene centered in La Paz and Santa Cruz. Painters and sculptors such as Marina Núñez del Prado, María Luisa Pacheco, and Cecilio Guzmán de Rojas drew on Aymara and Quechua imagery to build a distinctly Bolivian modernism, while traditional jewelry making and wood carving remain widely practiced crafts across the country.

Music and dance carry an outsized share of Bolivia's cultural expression, from Andean panpipe and charango ensembles to the elaborate costumed dances performed at festivals such as Oruro's Carnival. Bolivian literature developed more slowly than that of some of its neighbors, a pattern historians attribute partly to decades of political instability that pushed many writers and poets into exile, though the country has produced notable voices in poetry and the indigenista narrative tradition.

Bolivian cinema dates to 1897, when the country's first film screening took place, and to 1904's Personajes históricos y de actualidad, its earliest domestic production. Filmmaker José Velasco Maidana's silent-era Wara Wara (1930) remains a landmark, and the documentary tradition he helped establish deepened after the 1952 National Revolution, when the state-run Instituto Cinematográfico Boliviano produced newsreels and documentaries for over a decade and directors such as Jorge Sanjinés turned the camera toward Indigenous life and political struggle. Bolivia Televisión, the country's first television station, launched in 1969 as the government's broadcast outlet and helped establish state-run television in the country.
