Honduras: Economy and Trade

Honduras has a developing economy historically anchored in agriculture, with coffee and bananas remaining among its most important exports alongside a growing manufacturing sector centered on textile and apparel maquiladoras. Remittances from Hondurans living abroad, particularly in the United States, represent a substantial portion of national income and provide crucial support for many households across the country.

The United States is Honduras's largest trading partner, and the country participates in the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR), which supports trade in textiles, agricultural goods, and manufactured products. Honduras also trades actively with other Central American nations, exporting coffee, bananas, and apparel while importing machinery, fuel, and consumer goods to support its economy.
