Peru: Economy and Trade

by Strong Americas | Jul 16, 2026

Peru's economy is driven largely by mining, particularly copper, gold, and zinc, making it one of the world's leading mineral exporters. Agriculture, fisheries, and a growing tourism sector centered on sites such as Machu Picchu also contribute significantly to national output.

The United States and China are Peru's largest trading partners, and Peru participates in the Pacific Alliance trade bloc alongside Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. The country exports copper, gold, agricultural products such as fruits and coffee, and fishmeal while importing machinery, chemicals, and fuel.
