Paraguay: Economy and Trade

by Strong Americas | Jul 16, 2026

Paraguay's economy is heavily agricultural, ranking among the world's largest exporters of soybeans and beef. The country also generates substantial revenue from hydroelectric power, particularly through the massive Itaipú Dam, which it shares with Brazil.

Brazil and Argentina are Paraguay's largest trading partners, and the country is a founding member of Mercosur, the South American trade bloc. Paraguay exports soybeans, beef, electricity, and other agricultural commodities while importing manufactured goods, fuel, and machinery.
