Panama: Economy and Trade

Panama has one of Latin America's fastest-growing economies, driven by the Panama Canal, an extensive logistics and shipping sector, banking and financial services, and a growing tourism industry. The Colón Free Trade Zone, one of the largest free trade zones in the world, further supports the country's role as a regional commercial hub.

The United States is Panama's largest trading partner, and the canal generates substantial toll revenue from global shipping traffic moving between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Panama also trades with other Central American nations, China, and the European Union, exporting bananas, seafood, and other agricultural products while importing manufactured goods, machinery, and fuel.
