Argentina: Key Industries

by Strong Americas | Aug 3, 2026

Argentina is Latin America's third-largest economy, with agriculture serving as one of its foundational sectors. The country is the world's leading exporter of processed soy products and among the largest producers of soybeans, corn, wheat, and beef, with agricultural exports generating tens of billions of dollars annually. Fertile farmland in the Pampas region has long made Argentina one of the world's most productive agricultural exporters, supporting both domestic consumption and a substantial share of the country's foreign trade earnings.

Energy and mining have grown into increasingly significant contributors to the economy. Argentina holds some of the world's largest shale oil and shale gas reserves, concentrated in the Vaca Muerta formation in Patagonia, along with substantial lithium and copper deposits that have attracted growing international investment. The country's strong solar and wind potential, particularly in Patagonia, has also positioned renewable energy as an emerging area of development within the broader energy sector.

Manufacturing remains the largest single sector of Argentina's economy, closely tied to agriculture since much of the country's industrial output involves processing agricultural products for export. Automotive assembly, food processing, and textiles are among the most prominent manufacturing industries. In recent years, government incentive programs have sought to attract large-scale investment in energy, mining, and industrial projects, aiming to diversify and strengthen the country's economic base.
